Choose an Operating System
Perhaps the biggest question you have to ask yourself before getting to the brands and models is the type of operating system you want to use. This question is a matter of preference and depends on what you are more comfortable with, but is often overlooked in the decision process. Today, you can choose between Mac OS, Windows, and Chrome OS.
If you have used a Macbook before, then you may be familiar with Apple’s OS. Mac users will find an apps dock on the bottom of the screen and have access to features like AirDrop, Apple Pay, and Siri, as well as apps like iMovie and Keynote.

You would not want to always have to plug in your laptop, especially if you will frequently be working outdoors. Otherwise, you will find yourself inconveniently searching for a plug every time you need to do work.
Try Renting a Laptop
Though this is slightly more unconventional, you can rent a laptop to try out different models and see which one suits your taste. At times, it can be difficult to decide without getting the first-hand experience in using the model. A laptop rental will also be useful if you are extremely indecisive and torn between your options.
Look for Key Specifications
Though laptops continue to get upgraded over the years, you should look out for some key minimum specifications to ensure you get value for your money. Try to look for at least an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, a 256 GB solid-state drive (SSD). In case a laptop offers you less than 256GB SSD but superior quality specifications, you can consider getting a hard drive for added storage space, though it will take longer to load your files.
