Elon Musk finally delivers the latest vehicle, the long-awaited Tesla Model Y. The compact SUV that borrows several touches of the earlier popular – Model 3 is predicted to be able to rival the sales of other Tesla electric cars.
The Y model marks the fourth entry of the Tesla electric car product line that is slowly starting to grow. Elon Musk talks about the history of Tesla and the development of electric vehicles. Such as a farther car range, spacious space in the vehicle, as well as safety and driving speed at the Tesla design studio.
Exterior
Similar to what is seen in the other Tesla product lines, the front end display that seamlessly confirms the Model Y’s futuristic design. There are only a few grilles on the carrying part and the grooves right at the bottom of the fog lights. From front to rear, the outer exterior is relying on a smooth design to add to the aerodynamics of the vehicle.
The exterior of the Tesla Model Y is also equipped with standard 20-inch rims, but you can also get 18-inch and 19-inch versions. The online model configurator also confirms the company’s direction to remove all chrome accents from the outside of the vehicle.
Interior
The larger size gives the impression of an SUV in this car. Given that most of the outside and inside share the same design with Model 3. The inside is made more spacious, giving a compact SUV design in general.
Using the same platform as the Model 3, the Tesla Model Y dash also gets the same pattern. The horizontally oriented screen that contains all the main functions of the vehicle, such as infotainment systems, HVAC, vehicle settings and the like, decorates the dashboard, similar to the interface system found in the Model 3.
The Y model also has the settings and appearance of the seats that are almost the same as the sedan version. Even so, the front Tesla Model Y seats provide the expected height in an SUV. With a 7 seat option, the new model Y provides the second and third-row seats, where Tesla claims can accommodate 7 adults.
Tesla also reveals larger luggage parts than Model 3 and has added a video on its webpage that shows the interior of the Y model with foldable seats with a total luggage space of the 1,868 liters indicating that this car has enough space to carry goods – everyday shopping items.
Engine
Model Y is able to travel 0-100 km / h in just 3.5 seconds, the power is quite high compared to other compact SUVs. Elon Musk also mentioned the Tesla Model Y’s operating system will push the car to be able to travel 482 kilometers in a single charge.
According to the Tesla configurator, the Model Y will use a rear wheel drive. Dual motors in the Long Range variant will get a distance of 450 kilometers, a top speed of 217 km / h, and acceleration of 0-100 km / h in 4.8 seconds. While the Performance variant will get the same battery range but can go up to 240 km / h in 3.5 seconds acceleration.
