Osmo first comes up as a trending topic when the startup did a very detailed and precise job in utilizing the sophistication of computer vision technology to create a lot of interesting educational games to help educate the children.
Then the company took shape and produce a lot of educational games and as of right now, Osmo has exactly 15 educational games which are claimed to be educative and fully took the holistic approach. During this time their homemade games are mostly intended for children aged 5 – 12 years, but nowadays, Osmo is expanding to offers games for children under 5 years.
The project is called Osmo Little Genius Starter Kit, and this game still relies on the most important component in Osmo’s product portfolio, which is a small mirror that can be attached to the top of the iPad so that the camera can see what’s in front of it. The type of content is intended to help cognitive development as well as motoric children aged 3 – 5 years.
The educational aspects include learning about the alphabet, vocabulary, understanding emotions, solving problems and sharpening creativity. In terms of teaching the alphabet and vocabulary, for example, children are invited to arrange small colorful blocks into certain letters or objects, adjusting to what is being displayed on the screen.
At the same time, the activity of compiling these objects can certainly contribute to sharpening the creativity of children, while at the same time advancing their fine motor skills. This method of learning is known as tangible learning, and this is largely based on the theories of scholars and have been proven to be effective.
In addition to stacking blocks, children are also invited to experiment with clothes. They can combine various types of clothes, then see the reaction of the characters on the screen. At the same time, this activity will also invite children to learn to solve problems; choosing the right costume so that the character can face the challenges given.
Simply to put, the Osmo Little Genious Starter Kit has four hands-on games that will engage the preschoolers in the core subjects that will relate closely to their mental and cognitive skill. The open-ended play also encourages creativity, plus it’s fun!
Unfortunately, Osmo hasn’t shared much about the details regarding the Little Genius Starter Kit. What we do know is that the startup is planning to release the kit soon for $ 79.
