Along with the announcement of the OPPO Find X2 series, OPPO also took the time to introduce its first smartwatch wearable device, OPPO Watch. The smartwatch is the spear of OPPO’s strategy to enter the world of the IoT, introduced as a stylish watch for those who want to live healthier.
Brian Shen, Vice President of OPPO claims that the smartwatch might be the best design smartwatch this year. The claims can be seen from the screen that has an arch-like screen on their flagship phone.
Just like most smartwatches on the market, OPPO Watch comes in two size options; 41mm and 46mm. The smallest variant has a screen of 1.6 inches using an AMOLED panel, while the 46mm one certainly has a bigger screen at 1.91 inches.
Specifically, at the 46mm variant, OPPO uses a technology they call 3D flexible hyperboloid display, first on a smartwatch. The technology allows the smartwatch to have a body to screen ratio of 72.76% and a very thin bezel with a 3D curve next to it.
The aluminum frame on the OPPO Watch has a thickness of 4.5mm, integrated with the back made of integrated 3D ceramic material. The sensors are designed to be in contact with the user’s skin without applying excessive pressure.
Running Android-based ColorOS, OPPO Watch has cellular functions that can be used to call or access the internet. With eSIM support, users can share mobile phone numbers to a smartwatch or use a different number, giving options to communicate more freely.
Apart from being able to listen to music and make payments, OPPO also buries its app store, providing a list of third-party applications that can be installed into OPPO Watch. The types of applications are varied, ranging from social media, entertainment, travel, and others.
The watch face on this smartwatch also features AI technology which can produce wallpaper background according to the color of the user’s clothes.
OPPO also taking on special attention to embedding health features on its first smartwatch. The smartwatch is equipped with five sports detection sensors, and waterproof to a depth of 50 meters. The OPPO Watch can also monitor sleep quality and heart activity for 24 hours. For female users, there is a monthly period reminder function.
Despite having a myriad of advanced features, OPPO Watch is claimed to be able to light up to 40 hours of use, thanks to the use of the Dual-Chip Endurance System.
The smartwatch will intelligently switch to the use of chips made by Snapdragon (Wear 2500) and Apollo 3 co-processors, depending on the mode. For longer battery time, Power Saver mode with work wit basic functions that push the standby time to 21 days on a single charge.
The quick charging feature of VOOC Flash Charging is also embedded on the OPPO Watch where the full charge state will only take around 75 minutes, while 15 minutes of charging will increase the battery level to 46%.
The OPPO Watch Series will be available globally and will go on sale in mainland China starting on March 24th. The 41mm variant is priced at 1499 yuan, while the 46mm one is in 1999 yuan. OPPO offers two choices of strap material, rubber made from fluoro to Italian calfskin leather with various colors. The strap can be changed at the push of a button.
