The launch of the mobile version of the Nvidia RTX GPU has triggered the presence of many new high-end gaming laptops. We have seen the offerings from Razer, and now it’s Dell’s turn to show off through their Alienware line.
On the CES 2019 stage, Dell officially introduced Alienware Area 51m. Its name may borrow the name of the first Alienware laptop, but Dell really designed it as the ultimate gaming laptop, and it is not only represented by the upper-class specifications.
Nvidia RTX GPU is one of the superior features, with the most expensive variant packing the desktop version of the RTX 2080 which has been reduced by Dell itself. Then on the processor, there is an Intel Core i9-9900K, one of the fastest Intel desktop chips at the moment.
But what makes Area 51m very special is that the components can be replaced by a new consumer like a PC. This is different from the majority of gaming laptops that claim to be upgradeable, but in reality, has only given the flexibility of changing the RAM and storage components.
On RAM and storage, Area 51m can be configured to package DGB4 64GB RAM and 2TB storage combination SSD + 1TB hybrid drive. Turning to the screen, users will be greeted by a 17.3-inch screen with 1080p resolution, with a choice of refresh rates of 60 or 144 Hz, as well as support for G-Sync and Tobii eye tracking which are optional.
Regarding connectivity, Area 51M packs Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports, 3x USB-A 3.1, HDMI 2.0, Mini DisplayPort, Ethernet 2.5 Gbps, and ports to connect Alienware Graphics Amplifier aka external GPU.
Since the Area 51m is so powerful, it requires two adapters at once. However, if the user only used the laptop for a simple task that does not require maximum CPU performance, the user can simply put on one adapter.
All of this specs must be redeemed at an expensive price when Dell starts the marketing campaign of the latest addition to Alienware lineup on January 29. The cheapest variant of Alienware Area-51m is priced at $ 2,549, a reasonable price for a device that can be likened to a PC in the form of a laptop.
