Leica is the only camera manufacturer that consistently release black and white digital cameras. Leica recently announced the M10 Monochrom, which was prepared as a replacement for the Leica M-Monochrom (Typ 246) which launched in 2015.
The Leica M10 Monchrom still retains the rangefinder camera design as its predecessor. The difference is, that the Leica M10 Monochrom adopts the Leica M10-P’s slimmer body design. Just like the Leica M10-P, the Leica M10 Monochrom is also equipped with a very quiet shutter and touch screen.
One of the most significant improvements from the Leica M10 Monochrom is in the sensor sector. The Leica M10 Monochrom now comes with a full-frame sensor whose resolution is 40 megapixels.
The newest sensor also offers enhancements in ISO settings. Leica M10 Monochrom offers ISO settings from ISO 160 to ISO 100,000. So, the photographers can just go flawlessly while taking pictures in low light conditions.
One feature that is omitted from the Leica M10 Monochrom is the ability to record video. Thus, it is clear that Leica prepares this camera for the dedicated fans of photographers who like to take pictures in black and white.
The advantages of Monochrom are the rich gray level (grayscale is better), the dynamic range for capturing very bright to dark parts is better, and the image quality at very high ISO is better with more resolution/detail than the color version.
The LCD screen on the Leica has been upgraded to 3 inches by 921,000 dots. In addition, it is also coated with a scratch-resistant Sapphire Crystal Screen. The thin body of the previous generation is a distinct advantage. In addition, Leica M10 Monochrom also uses a matte paint coating.
The Leica M10 Monochrom also has a blackened button and a lens release button. Its function is to maintain a black and white aesthetic. As for other prominent features, the Leica M10 Monochrom is equipped with WiFi connectivity and supports the Leica Fotos 2.0 application.
The Leica M10 Monochrom is now available and is marketed for $ 8295. The M10 purchase package includes a camera strap, battery and charger, and a three-month subscription to Adobe Lightroom.
