Design

The BMW R 1200 GS is indeed bigger than its predecessor, especially when viewed from the front, a 2-cylinder boxer engine and a 30-liter tank enough to make the thighs open wide. The back side actually looks smaller because of the minus side and top box.  The rear fender is tiny, but you don’t need to worry about splashing dirt, because there is an additional fender attached to the single side swing arm.

The bike is equipped with 5 choices of riding mode, traction control, ABS, cruise control to hazard, then there is also an auto lamp and fog lamp. In order to stay comfortable when riding in cold conditions such as when it rains, the heater grip that has 2 levels of heat is available.

The speedometer is a large combination of analog and digital combinations. The speed indicator and pointer rpm are analogous to but still clearly visible. The digital part is divided into 3, the first is fuel meter, gear position, driving mode, and clock. Other features available are the odometer, trip meter, fuel range, fuel consumption, speed average, tire pressure, oil level, air temperature, and engine temperature.

Adaptive Suspension

The boxer engine design makes this motorbike have a good center of gravity, even when the cruise control feature is active, then the hand is released from the steering wheel and the motorbike still runs straight.

In addition to adjusting the driver’s weight and road conditions, the electronic suspension can be adjusted via a switch on the left side. The choices are soft, normal and hard which can be selected in the condition of a speeding motor so it doesn’t need to be complicated anymore.

There is also an option to adjust other weights such as when riding alone, equipped with a box or riding. This setting will adjust the height of the motor suspension so it doesn’t collapse. Then what is also special is the construction of the front suspension which is called a typical BMW telelever suspension. Soft and very comfortable but still calm when cornering.

Engine & Riding Mode

This boxer engine with a capacity of 1,170 cc is also equipped with 6 accelerations. In total there are 5 choices of driving modes there are Rain, Road, Dynamic, Enduro and Enduro Pro which are associated with ASC (Automatic Stability Control) as well as ESA (Electronic Stability Adjustments) so the suspension characters will also adjust to the selected driving mode.

In the Rain mode, engine response becomes smoother helping the driver when driving rain with minimal grip. Road mode is suitable for casual driving and occasional gas cruising because gas openings are more linear.

Then Dynamic mode highlights the sporty side of this motorbike adventure. Gas openings can reach a maximum power of 125 hp and 125 Nm of 6,500 rpm of torque. Enduro mode is suitable for off-road driving while the Enduro Pro is usually utilized for those who enjoy more loose and wild riding experience.
