Google recently launched a mid-range segment product dubbed Pixel 5a. As the name implies, this smartphone is a direct successor to the Pixel 4a 5G, which was introduced last year.
Design
The shape of the Google Pixel 5a looks almost identical to its predecessor, but the new Pixel smartphone takes one step ahead since the body frame is already made of aluminum. Not only that, but the body part is also water and dust resistant with IP67 certification.
The OLED screen size has slightly increased from 6.2 inches to 6.34 inches, but the resolution and refresh rate remains at 1080p and 60 Hz. In line with its sturdier physique, the glass layer that protects the screen has also been upgraded from Gorilla Glass 3 to Gorilla Glass 6.
Specs
The last and most significant novelty is the battery issue. Its capacity has increased dramatically from 3,885 mAh to 4,680 mAh, although the charging support has not changed (18 W), and the wireless charging is still lacking from the specs sheet.
Automatically, the battery life is guaranteed to be even longer than its antecedent, especially considering that the specifications have not changed.
Google Pixel 5a still employs the Snapdragon 765G chipset, complete with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The three embedded cameras are precisely the same: a 12 megapixel f/1.7 main camera, a 16 megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide camera, and an 8 megapixel f/2.0 front camera.
On the operating system (OS), this smartphone runs the latest Android 11 and is guaranteed three years of OS upgrades and security patch support.
Price and Availability
Google says that Pixel 5a with 5G will be the last Pixel phone to ship with a charger in the box, apparently for environmental reasons like Apple and Samsung do.
As for the price, the company is tagging the smartphone with a $449 price tag. The phone is currently available on the Google Store and several marketplaces worldwide.
