Belkin has just launched an iPhone accessory that is interesting and a bit odd. It’s interesting because the Magnetic Phone Mount with Face Tracking combines face-tracking technology with the iPhone 12’s MagSafe feature, and odd because the practice scenario is quite limited.
Specs
Belkin Magnetic Phone Mount with Face Tracking is a stand specially designed for the iPhone 12. It has absolutely no clamping or support mechanism since there is only a circular magnet that will stick to the back of the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max.
From there it can rotate 360 degrees to follow where the user is moving in the room with the help of face-tracking technology. One limitation is that the face tracking feature can only work when the companion app made by Belkin is activated, and that means the face tracking feature doesn’t work in apps like FaceTime or Zoom.
Thus, the method scenario is limited to video recording, such as when you want to create cooking video content, where the face tracking feature will ensure that your face stays in the center of the frame even if you move here and there.
On the other hand, when you are cooking while following a video guide, this stand is no different from other stands that are not equipped with a face-tracking feature.
In addition to portrait orientation, the Belkin accessory also supports mounting in landscape orientation, with an adjustable tilt angle between -15° to 30°. Belkin also ensures that videos recorded using its companion application can be directly uploaded to various social media, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.
Price and Availability
The accessory draws its power from three AA batteries. But it should be noted, your iPhone will not be charged as long as it is attached to this stand. The Belkin Magnetic Phone Mount with Face Tracking is marketed for $65 and available via Belkin’s official site and Amazon.
