Electric-powered cars are the only solution to deal with increasingly severe air pollution and depleting oil supplies. Unfortunately, some car companies have introduced this environmentally friendly vehicle in the form of crossovers, SUVs, city cars, to hypercar which is super expensive.
The gap is seen by Hyundai as an opportunity. The South Korean carmaker sees that there are fewer manufacturers that feature electric cars in the form of a four-door sports sedan. Whereas in the past, this type of car was quite popular with the world public.
And here comes the Prophecy in the form of a four-door sports sedan with zero emissions. Hyundai recently launched Prophecy as a new electric car concept that represents the language of electric vehicle design in the future.
Hyundai designers carve eternal designs through the pull of streamlined lines through sharp and impressive aerodynamics.
The design that seems rounded from bonnet to stern seems to minimize air resistance. The presence of an elegant, compact wing spoiler on the back is intended to improve aerodynamics.
The front is lower and tapered with a wide air grille extending to the grill. Integrated rear spoiler complements this effect by utilizing a downforce which helps vehicle stability when traveling at high speed. The model has four doors which are made in opposite directions like the door on the Rolls-Royce Phantom.
The pixel light model that first appeared on the Hyundai 45 concept was also applied to the headlights, rear lights, and rear wing spoiler. Hyundai claims that the lamp model will be a feature that shows the design characteristics for future models.
The design is getting more aerodynamic by making the wheelbase is longer than usual. The benefit is that it creates a wider cabin volume so that it is optimal for autonomous driving systems.
For this purpose, there is no steering wheel in the cabin. Instead, the futuristic joystick application is placed on the interior panel side of the door.
But if the driver wants to control the car himself, they can use a pair of joysticks placed in the door trim and center console. And if they choose not to drive the car, the driver can activate the Relax mode where the autonomous system will take over the steering wheel of the Hyundai ‘Prophecy’ Concept EV.
Other instruments are centered on the center console and the entire information center can be monitored easily on a large information screen in the dashboard center.
The Prophecy prototype aims to convey a message from about high-performance electric vehicles in the future and provide a glimpse of the next generation of Hyundai electric models that will adopt this design language.
Prophecy will inspire the design of the second-generation Hyundai Ioniq which is likely to be present in 2021. The environmentally friendly car will share the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) with 45 concepts, which will be launched before the end of 2020.
