Toyota is expanding the Supra line-up for the European market by presenting the Toyota Supra 2.0L, which uses a 2,000cc inline-4 turbo engine, and will be marketed together with the 3,000cc inline-6 turbo engine variant that was released last year.
According to Toyota, Supra with smaller power will bring it to a wider market because of the cheaper price it offered. But make no mistake, the Toyota Supra with four cylinders has several advantages over the 3,000cc turbo variant.
Paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, the power produced by the Toyota Supra 2.0L engine is around 254 HP and 400 Nm of torque, lower than the inline-6 engine that can release 340 HP and 500 Nm of torque.
But the performance of the 2020 Toyota GR Supra 2.0L cannot be underestimated as it packed an acceleration that can reach 0-100 km / h in 5.2 seconds with a top speed at 250 km/hour.
Despite losing on power, the Toyota Supra four-cylinder has advantages in handling since the weight of the car is 100 kg lighter than the Supra with a 3000cc engine.
Besides, the smaller engine also gives the option of laying the engine closer to the center of the car and makes the car’s weight distribution balanced at 50:50.
The 2020 Toyota GR Supra 2.0L is offered with 18-inch alloy wheels as standard and a gloss finish. Then wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport 255/40 ZR18 tires at the front and 275/40 ZR18 at the rear.
The sports car is equipped with a capable audio system with four 100W speakers. Then it can be adjusted through the 8.8-inch touchscreen head unit. While the driver will also have a comfy drive as the car is equipped with Alcantara seats.
Some safety devices are also embedded as standard, from pedestrian and cyclist detection with braking function, lane-keep assist with active steering, intelligent speed assists, and road sign assist.
Toyota also provides three optional packages, Connect, Sport, and Premium. The connect package adds navigation and connectivity features such as Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Performance is focused on the sports package, starting from the replacement of high-performance brakes, adaptive variable suspension, and active differential.
Meanwhile, the premium package will be boosted with a premium sound system from JBL with 12 speakers, head-up display, wireless smartphone charger, power seat adjustment with memory settings, and seats covered in black leather material.
While the 3,000cc variant of the Toyota GR Supra 2.0L will only have 900 units available, the Toyota Supra 2.0L will not get a production limit and comes at a lower price which will be informed at a later date.
