Even though it has been absent from the World Rally Championship (WRC) since 2008, Subaru remains attached as one of the brands that correlate with the word fast and through the release of the WRX STI lineup, Subaru represents an above average performance engineering capabilities.
Subaru has a special Subaru Technica International (STI) division which is usually tasked with making their standard car, usually the Subaru Impreza, to be re-tuned into a sports sedan. The approach first begins when the Subaru WRX STI debuted in 2001.
In 2020, Subaru and STI, once again, release the whole new Subaru WRX STI 2020 which the carmaker claimed to be the only Subaru model that is the fastest in its history.
Aggressive is the word that represents the front exterior of the Subaru WRX STI that was actually inspired by the WRX STI Nürburgring Challenge. The aura thickens starting from the design of the air scoop in the engine hood that is massive, combined with an air intake in the lower bumper area which is more dominant to flow air into the engine room.
From the side, the 2020 Subaru WRX STI also made improvements through the use of a rigid carbon-fiber roof, while in each wheel area, Subaru plot an over fender due to the size of the wheels and wider tires to get a more significant grip.
The rear exterior of the car uses a large fixed rear spoiler. In addition, the carmaker also uses a diffuser in the lower bumper area to support the aerodynamics of the car.
Subaru maybe was being too focused on the technical matters of the performance of the car that the interior area was a bit bland. However, they did provide all the latest infotainment systems with various modern features.
The Subaru WRX STI engine uses a 2.5 liter flat-4 turbo boxer engine that can produce 310 hp performance delivered to all wheels via a 6-speed transmission system with front/rear limited-slip differentials. The car can leap from 0 to 100 in just 4,4 seconds.
Aside from the standard trim, the Subaru WRX STI also has a limited variant that has far more modern features than its brother. As for the price, the car that beat VW, Honda, and Hyundai in terms of performance is marketed starting at $ 27,495.
