The global outbreak of COVID-19 did not prevent Genesis from updating its lineup. Of course, the introductions made by the luxury Hyundai brand are done online so it’s safe for everyone.
Car manufacturers often release new-generation vehicles that look almost identical to their predecessors, but Genesis does things differently with the release of the 2020 Genesis G80.
The South Korean carmaker started with a blank sheet of paper and created a luxury car that looks very different from its predecessor plus it is also different from all the other models in the segment.
On the exterior, the new G80 adopts the design language Athletic Elegance and features headlights and dual striped quad rear lights. The luxury sedan also features a large front grille with a sleek four-door body coupe design that makes this car stand out from other Genesis models.
A Large grille with a pentagon shape is also present in the car. The 20-inch rim motif on the G80 is the same as the GV80 while at the back, the new Genesis G80 adopted a fresh new approach.
The safety system on this luxury sedan car is astonishing, such as automatic emergency braking, blind-spot collision avoidance, and many others.
One of the advanced features embedded is Highway Driving Assist II which allows the car to change lanes autonomously by simply turning on the turn signal. The adaptive cruise control feature called Machine Learning can learn the character of the driver.
The overhaul is also happening to the inside of the 2020 Genesis G80. The interior is significantly improved compared to the old model G80. Most interior surfaces are covered in soft-touch leather and there are several luxurious wooden trims on the door panels, dash and center console.
Other key features include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with 3D technology and a 14.5-inch widescreen infotainment system that supports Apple Car Play and Android Auto, similar to the system used in Genesis GV80.
The steering wheel on the 2020 Genesis G80 uses a four-bar model (the GV80 uses a two-beam classic car style). The available materials that consumers can choose to cover the steering wheel are wood, leather, aluminum, and many more.
The driving force offered by Genesis for this luxury sedan consists of gasoline and diesel. As for the gasoline engines, there are two choices, 4 cylinder capacity of 2,500 ccs equipped with a turbocharged 300 hp powered which has 421 Nm of torque.
The second choice is a 3,500 cc V6 unit with 375 hp and 530 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, for the diesel variant, the 2020 Genesis G80 comes with cubication of 2,200 cc 4-cylinder that can produce 207 hp.
The Genesis G80 has already begun to be sold to the South Korean market, and its marketing range will likely be expanded to other markets in the second half of 2020.
