Fujifilm recently launches its newest premium compact camera, the X100V. The fifth iteration of the X100 series comes with several significant updates while still maintaining the distinctive elements that made it popular for the first time.
The Fujifilm X100V packs an APS-C X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor with a resolution of 26 megapixels, the same sensor as that embedded on Fujifilm X-T3 or X-Pro3. The backside-illuminated design sensor is also accompanied by an X-Processor 4 that promises to boost performance, is no exception for matters of autofocus and face/eye detection.
What has been a hallmark of the X100 series since its first-generation and has never been changed is a fixed 23 mm f / 2 lens. The Fujifilm X100V is still pretty much the same, but the company has improved its optical design so that it can more quickly get to lock focus from close range, and able produce sharper images at the edges of the frame.
Furthermore, the Fujifilm X100V also comes with the trend that the company has been pushing up to lately, improvement in video recording capabilities.
Sure enough, the X100V can record in a maximum resolution of 4K 30 fps, or 1080p 120 fps for slow-motion effects. Fujifilm also took the chance to embed the F-log mode so the videographer could apply color grading manually during the editing process.
Another distinctive element of the Fujifilm X100 series is the hybrid viewfinder – optical and electronic. The X100V certainly still maintains it but also enhances its electronic viewfinder through the 3.69 million dot OLED resolution panel. Underneath, there is an LCD which is now a touchscreen and can be tilted both ways.
Fujifilm claims the X100V retro body is weather-resistant, but only when it is fitted with an AR-X100 ring adapter and PRF-49 protection filter. Both are optional accessories, so you can say the weather resistance is optional because the lens still needs extra protection.
It is undeniable that the main attraction of the Fujifilm X100 is its relatively simple design and small size, its weight is under 1/2 kg, making it easy to carry everywhere. The built-quality camera uses aluminum which seems to be more sturdy and luxurious than the previous generation. The Fujifilm X100V is planned to be marketed by the end of February for $ 1,400.
