Porsche has a habit wherein this brand there is one model that can have various variants, not including special editions that enrich the line-up portfolio. One of the most famous is the line of Porsche Cayman which this year is getting the latest addition in the form of the new 718 Cayman GT4.
The focus of the Porsche engineer for the new 718 Cayman GT4 is on one thing, aerodynamics. In order to focus on that, they are reshaping everything starting from the front fascia of Porsche where they began to adopt the front lip spoiler which is in charge of regulating the air flow to be able to more optimally enter the central air intake. And to support the performance of the fixed wing panel, the rear diffuser is pinned together with a pair of tailpipe sports exhaust systems.
Interior
Entering into the cabin of the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4, the German automobile manufacturer presents a cabin concept that is similar to the Cayman 718 model with the only changes to the cabin material is the combination between the leather and Alcantara premium with a touch of contrasting color stitch details.
Panels in the dashboard area use brushed with aluminum touches, and the instrument cluster uses a titanium dial with the GT4 logo. As for the steering wheel, Porsche is using GT-specific sports steering wheel with a top center marking and packed in Alcantara material.
If you pay attention to the door panel for open and close levers using strap material specifically used in the motorsport event. The rest for features in the cabin, such as Porsche Communication Management (PCM), BOSE Surround Sound System, and climate control systems are all similar to the standard 718 Cayman.
In order provide a better feeling of driving, Porsche uses a full bucket seats seat format with a set of the manual seat back tilt settings and adjusts the seat height/low using electric settings, and on the headrest, there are embossed GT4. Features
Broadly speaking, the handling system on the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 is redesigned to ensure the driving character is more aggressive. Starting from the suspension that is using special spring-strut for racing cars with a suspension position lower than 30 mm compared to the standard 718 Cayman.
Plus, the driver will also get the Porsche Active Suspension Management with the ability to determine the level of rigidity of the suspension based on Normal or Sporty mode.
In addition, the Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system is re-tuned to allow the performance of Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control (TC) to be maximized, or can be disabled in two different stages. And to support track day requirements, the Chrono Package system is supported by a lap trigger and a Porsche Track Precision app connected on PCM.
Exclusive to this variant, Porsche provides the Clubsport package option so that when the car is carried on activities on the race track it can get safer and more optimal. This option includes a steel roll cage, six-point racing harness with a special shoulder belt for the use of the HANS® safety device (Head And Neck Support).
Engine
In the engine room that is placed in the mid-engine configuration, Porsche embedded a 4.0 liter flat-6 naturally aspirated engine which in fact is the basis of the Porsche 911 Carrera engines. The engine is equipped with direct fuel injection technology (DFI).
The replacement of the flat-4 turbocharger engine to a flat-6 naturally aspirated engine on the 718 Cayman GT4 has an impact on the performance of this engine which is more linear with high RPM characters.
Porsche claims the new 718 Cayman GT4 produces 420 PS of power at a maximum engine speed of 8,000 RPM, while maximum torque of 420 Nm is achieved at a 5,000 – 6,800 RPM engine rotation range.
All this power is channeled to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission with the support of Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) and rear differential lock. Drivers can launch the new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 from a standstill to 100 km / h in 4.4 seconds, and 0-200 km / h is achieved in just 13.8 seconds.
